The size of the company, the people behind it, and the standards they actually hold themselves to are usually invisible unless you go digging. Equil is a small New Zealand family business, and that shapes everything about how we operate.

Why we started

We built Equil because we couldn't find a Shilajit product that met the standard we'd want for our own family — one with verified high fulvic acid content, genuine, traceable Himalayan sourcing, proper NZ-based safety testing, and complete transparency. So we made it ourselves.

Being small in this industry isn't a disadvantage — it's a different set of priorities. Large companies optimise for margin, scale, and brand growth. We optimise for a product we'd be comfortable giving to our own family. When we source, we're not asking "what's the cheapest source that still lets us make the claim?" — we're asking "what's the best source we can verify and stand behind?" When we test, we're not asking "what's the minimum required?" — we're asking "what would we want to know if we were the customer?"

The supply chain, step by step

Here's exactly how our Shilajit travels from the Kumaon Himalayan mountains to your door:

• 1. Hand collection in the Kumaon Himalayas: Between May and September, as the rock warms, Shilajit resin surfaces through fissures in the high-altitude rock. It's collected by hand by a small local Kumaon community — a traditional, low-impact method practised for generations. Seasonal, and impossible to rush or industrialise.
• 2. Purification at source: The raw resin is dissolved in fresh spring water, filtered to remove grit and debris, and concentrated through low-temperature evaporation — kept below 40°C to preserve the fulvic acid, humic substances, and DBPs.
• 3. Tablet production: A gentle drying step reduces moisture to roughly 4–5%, creating a stable dehydrated resin pressed into tablets with no fillers, binders, or additives — a consistent, pre-measured daily dose.
• 4. Arrival in NZ and quarantine: Each batch arrives in New Zealand and is held in quarantine before release.
• 5. Independent testing: A sample from each batch is submitted to Hill Laboratories, an independent accredited NZ laboratory, and tested for heavy metals, fulvic acid content, mycotoxins, and microbial safety. Only batches that pass every parameter are released.
• 6. Results published: Passing batch results are published openly at equil.co.nz/pages/third-party-test.
• 7. Stocked and shipped from Kerikeri: Released stock is held at our Kerikeri facility and dispatched directly by the Equil team — no dropshipping, no third-party fulfilment. Typically 2–5 business days to any NZ address.

Sourcing: a specific, traceable Kumaon source we can verify — not a vague "Himalayan" claim behind an anonymous supplier. Testing: every batch tested in NZ and published, rather than periodic testing filed away. Formulation: no fillers or additives — not because they'd be hard to add, but because we wouldn't want to take them ourselves. Stock & shipping: we hold our own stock and pack your order, so we know exactly what's in the box.
