Most supplement companies look the same online. Polished websites, confident claims, stock photos of mountain landscapes. The size of the company, the people behind it, the standards they actually hold themselves to — none of this is visible unless you dig for it. Equil is a small New Zealand family business. We want you to know that, because it shapes everything about how we operate.
Being a small family business in the supplement industry is not a disadvantage — it's a different set of priorities. Large supplement companies optimise for margin, scale, and brand growth. We optimise for a product we'd be comfortable giving to our own family. These are different objectives, and they produce different products.
When we source Shilajit, we're not asking "what's the cheapest source that still lets us make the claim?" We're asking "what's the best source we can verify and stand behind?" When we test, we're not asking "what's the minimum testing we need to do?" We're asking "what would we want to know if we were the customer?"
Sourcing: We source from the Kumaon Himalayan mountains — a specific, traceable source with a documented quality record — because we know exactly where our Shilajit comes from and we're confident in its quality. Not a vague "Himalayan" claim backed by an anonymous supplier.
Testing: We test every batch in New Zealand for heavy metals and fulvic acid content, and we publish the results. A large corporation might test periodically and file the results. We test every batch and publish because we'd want that level of transparency if we were buying.
Formulation: No fillers, no binders, no unnecessary additives. Not because we couldn't use them — they'd make production easier — but because we wouldn't want to take them ourselves.
Stock and shipping: We hold our own stock in New Zealand and ship directly from Kerikeri. No dropshipping, no third-party fulfilment gaps. We pack your order. We know what's in it.
We're a small family business. We're not a large team — which means when you contact us, you're speaking to people who are genuinely invested in the product and the customer experience, not a call centre.

Because we couldn't find a Shilajit product that met the standards we'd want for our own family — specifically one with verified high fulvic acid content, genuine Himalayan sourcing, proper NZ-based safety testing, and complete transparency. So we built it.
